A "jack-of-all-trades." Perhaps no profession better embodies this say?ing than a facilities maintenance man?ager at a public aquarium. Not only are they proficient in the arts of heat?ing, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing, electrical work, and rou?tine troubleshooting, they also moon?light as chemists, balancing dissolved solid and oxygen content in the exhibits; mechanical engineers, con?trolling complex pump and piping systems; and biologists, ensuring nothing interferes with the exhibit plant and animal health. Many prob?lems these maintenance managers must solve are unique to their facili?ties alone. With all the disciplines they juggle, it is no surprise one may be underestimated or misunderstood- corrosion.
