Meeting Employers

I hope you had a great summer and are ready for the new academic year ahead, whether it is your first or final year: new beginnings, new activities and new opportunities. A lovely day out over the summer was to attend the prize-giving at the University of Surrey where I was invited to support the presentation of the IMA prizes. The Institute offers each UK university, offering approved degrees in mathematical sciences, free memberships to two of their graduates for outstanding performance on their mathematical qualification. Each university chooses individually their criteria for the award of the prizes. Autumn is the peak season for careers fairs and recruitment activity so do try to make the time to go and see who is recruiting and what kind of roles they have on offer. Even if you are not thinking of applying yet, think of it as window shopping. One of the most important things graduate employers want is work experience so you can explore paid internships if you are not yet in the graduate jobs market.
