Robots being used for inspecting bridges and electrical cables are on the rise, with key research being done in this sector, and companies producing such robots. The need to create such robots is to ease work done by human beings, and thereby reducing the number of fatalities caused while performing dangerous and difficult tasks. Key issue associated with the existing models in the market is the speed and accuracy with which the defects are identified. A robot developed by the Fraunhofer Institute for Non-Destructive Testing IZFP has overcome these challenges faced by existing robot models.
