Billabong introduces graphene wetsuits

First discovered in 2004 by researchers at the University of Manchester,UK,the’wonder material’ that is graphene is continually being used in more and more applications.Now,surf and clothing company Billabong has integrated this form of carbon into its latest range of wetsuits to optimise the thermal comfort for its wearers.“For the past three years we have been using carbon yarns knitted into the thermal linings of our suits,” says Scott Boot,global wetsuit manager at Billabong.“We then heard about graphene for other applications and we asked our mills if it was possible to combine graphene with the yarns.” The main material used to create a wetsuit is called neoprene,which is typically a combination of three materials-the exterior laminated jersey,the foam core,and an interior laminated jersey.The material is cut to shape and the panels assembled to form a wetsuit.
