Canadian government representatives made numerous misleading claims about the state of the U.S. lumber industry during an International Trade Commission (ITC' hearing on the Canadian softwood lumber dispute in September. American landowners, thankfully also had allies at the hearing.Included in the Canadian government's baseless claims was the idea that the U.S. lumber industry is doing so well that it does not matter that Canadian companies are being given an unfair competitive advantage. In addition, they claimed that the rebuilding effort from Hurricane Harvey will provide enough business that subsidized Canadian competitors will have negligible impact on the demand for American softwood lumber.
