Implications At similar levels of feed intake, Holstein-Friesian (HF) dairy cows have the potential to produce less entericmethane (CH4) than either HF crossbred cows or Norwegian dairy cows.Introduction In the UK, HF is the most commonly used breed in dairy production systems, while HF crossbred cows andNorwegian cows have increasingly been adopted because of their better performance in some functional traits (e.g., healthand fertility). The present study used a large calorimetric dataset to examine if there was a difference in enteric CH4emissions between these different genotypes of dairy cows.
