A Cretaceous calamity? The Hypsilophodon Bed of the Isle of Wight, southern England

Complete or near-complete skeletons of the herbivorous dinosaur Hypsilophodon fox/7 occur frequently in a metre-thick band of mudstone and sandstone in the Lower Cretaceous Wessex Formation of the Isle of Wight. The reasons for this accumulation have been the subject of some debate. This article examines new sedimentological clues that provide a plausible explanation for these dinosaurs' demise.
