Antwerp's expansion: The first phases of Europe's largest construction project, the Deurganck dock, are moving towards completion

Container traffic through the Port of Antwerp in Belgium has reached capacity. It has grown by more than 10% a year in recent years and in 2003 reached 5.5m tonne equivalent units (TEU). The new Deurganck dock, now under construction, is expected to double the port's handling capacity. At a cost of EUR430m, it is said to be Europe's largest current construction project.
