FIRM LOAD SHEDDING is a process in which gas distribution networks restrict or curtail the supply of gas to industrial and commercial supply points during an emergency.The main aim of this practice is to reduce demand,giving preference to domestic customers.Gas distribution networks do this as it's more manageable to contact a number of non-domestic companies than attempting to make individual contact with thousands(or millions)of low volume gas users.This process is tested annually as part of the wider National Gas Emergency Exercise.Following the exercise in 2014,there was an opportunity to take charge of the process at Wales & West Utilities.Having taken part in the exercise for a number of years,and with an IT background,I believed I could drive some improvements in the systems we used and ultimately improve performance,so I put myself forward.
