The company's headquarters and research and technology development centre are located in Charlotte, North Carolina, while other offices are located in the UK, China, India, and Dubai. Midrex recently celebrated the 50th anniversary of the first plant - at Oregon Steel Mills in Portland - featuring its direct reduction technology. In 2018, MIDREX Plants eclipsed the one billion tons cumulative production total. Every year since 1979, MIDREX Plants has accounted for at least 50% of the world's direct reduced iron(DRI) production - 60% since 1987. Furthermore, 79% of direct reduced iron DRI produced throughout the world is by shaft furnace-based processes, and the MIDREX Process makes up almost 80% of that total. There are currently more than 90 modules based on MIDREX Technology in 21 countries globally that help to make up these impressive figures.
