Rubber versus plastics K2019 will bring together suppliers and manufacturers from two sectors which do not always see eye-to-eye

Every three years the international polymer sector gets together in Dusseldorf to show off and study new technologies and discuss issues impacting their businesses and the industry at large.As it’says on the can',the global Kunststoffe trade fair is essentially a plastics show.However,as our K show preview in this issue shows,rubber and elastomer technologies will also be strongly represented.With around 3,000 registered exhibitors and over 200,000 visitors are expected to attend,the expo on 16-23 Oct.And,if only 5-10% of the show is rubber-related,K would still be one of the biggest events in the rubber industry's calendar.In compiling the preview,I was reminded of the DKT 2018(Days of Rubber)show in Nuremberg,Germany where my ERJ colleagues canvassed exhibitors about their interest in participating in a special report for the K show.We were all surprised that so many people responded-some in quite frank terms-that they had no interest whatsoever in K,as it was a’plastics’show.
