摘要

The study of the morphology and mineralogical peculiarities of diagenetic and epigenetic types of carbonate concentrations in the Holocene paleosols of the chernozemic zone (the Chechen Depression, North Caucasus) proves that it is possible to separate diagenetic (formed after soil burying) carbonates from epigenetic ones and, hence, to reconstruct the initial carbonate profile of buried paleosols. The mechanisms of formation of needle-shaped calcite in the buried and surface soils of this zone are discussed.
