Integrally-Geared Turbo-Compressors for Oil and Gas Plants

An integrally-geared centrifugal compressor offers a lower initial price, a higher efficiency and a compact package compared to a conventional centrifugal compressor configuration. There are successful references for integrally-geared turbo-compressors in wide ranges of oil and gas applications. Different performance, mechanical and reliability aspects of integrally-geared centrifugal compressors are described. Risks and challenges are also discussed. The main concern is correct selection between an integrally-geared compressor and a conventional type compressor based on an application and plant requirements to obtain the lowest "Total Cost of Ownership ".
