The Quad 204 redevelopment involved an infill campaign of wells in the Schiehallion and Loyal field.The fields are located about 159km West of the Shetland Islands in the UK,in the Faeroe-Shetland Basin.A key feature of the project has been a relentless focus on safety,cost and performance,underpinning improved development cost and maximizing economic recovery.A major component of this has been drilling performance through focus on rate of penetration(ROP)improvement.The program adopted several novel PDC and Hybrid drill bit technologies such as new TCI layouts,and the use of 25 mm diameter and dual chamfer PDC cutter geometries for achieving ROP increases of 28% and 36% in the 17 112'' and 12 114''-sections,respectively.Breaking the ROP records in the field has depended on close collaboration between the operator and well placement provider personnel.This led to a shared effort to analyze ROP constraints,drilling parameters,optimize drill bit and system design.
