The U.S. Navy wants an inventory of approximately 300 NMT units. Inventory will comprise a mixture of shore stations and units for surface ships and submarines. Extensive software upgrade expected in near future. X-band capability in development. The Navy Multi-band Terminal (NMT) is a multiband, multimode satellite terminal. The goal of the NMT R&D program is to create a military satellite communications system that consolidates the capabilities of current and future systems in a single terminal.
