摘要

The solidification of the liquid steel in a continuous casting machine is initiated in the mould, where the steel shell is formed and shaped. One main task of the mould is therefore to extract the superheat from the liquid steel and dissipate this energy into the cooling water. Besides the request for high thermal conductivity of the mould's copper material, an appropriate cooling design has to be chosen as the basis for good performance as well as the requested product quality. The target should be to design a homogenous cooling system which is essential for reaching best possible conditions to form a shell with low stresses to minimize risk of cracks in the shell.
