The war on fossil fuels and those who extract them continues, with the divisions lining up against the oil industry now not only including the usual pressure groups such as Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth but also newer organizations like Extinction Rebellion. Pope Francis may have been offering a more conciliatory tone at last week's Dialogue on the energy transition at the Vatican, attended by several CEOs of major oil companies, but even the pontiff said things that will make oil executives uncomfortable. Most notably, he highlighted the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's view that there is only a decade or so left in which to take action to limit global warming to an acceptable level (EIF Oct. 17'18).
