US green coke exports slipped in February

Green petroleum coke exports from the US slipped by 8pc from a year earlier in February as lighter crude slates and re- fnery maintenance tightened supply even before the Covid-19 crisis hit. The US shipped less than 3.1mn t of green coke during the month, according to the latest US Census Bureau data. This compares with over 3.3mn t in February 2019, which had one fewer day. The total is still relatively high as the country shipped less than 3mn t each month last year after February. But exports are expected to drop signifcantly in the coming months as US refners cut production because of declining transportation fuels demand due to stay-at-home orders and shutdowns from the Covid-19 pandemic.
