Scrubber compliance window begins to close

Shipowners looking for ways to comply with the upcoming sulphur cap by installing scrubbers on their vessels will have to act soon as scrubber manufacturers’ order books are flling up fast. With a scrubber installed, a ship will still be allowed to burn fuel with more than 0.5pc sulphur content after the International Maritime Organisation’s (IMO) global sulphur cap is implemented on 1 January 2020.
