US midcontinent refinery rates fall sharply

US midcontinent refinery utilisation rates sank to their lowest level since April 2016 during the week ended 21 September, Energy Information Administration (EIA) data released last week showed. Regional capacity utilisation, which measures utilisation of crude distillation units (CDUs), declined to 83.2pc, down from 96pc the previous week and 100pc a month earlier.
