Alunorte signs agreements to hasten output

Norwegian group Norsk Hydro took a step towards resuming full production at its Brazilian Alunorte alumina refinery in Para by signing two agreements with local authorities on 5 September. Alunorte, the world’s largest alumina refinery, has commit- ted to invest more than 300mn real ($72mn) in protective and compensatory measures that could potentially pave the way for Brazilian regulators to lift current orders that restrict the refinery to 50pc of its 6.3mn t/yr production capacity.
