Higher fuel-costs weigh on Indian cement margins

Indian cement makers Ultratech and Shree Cement faced higher operational expenses amid rising petroleum coke costs in the last quarter of the Indian fscal year, which ended on 30 March. “Petcoke procurement cost has been going up continu- ously,” which is a source of concern for all cement companies, chief fnancial ofcer Atul Daga said. The price of imported US 6.5pc sulphur coke rose to $117.50/t by the end of March from just $100/t at the beginning of January, according to Argus as- sessments. This compares with a range of $79.50-$89/t in the same quarter a year earlier.
