Chinese state-controlled Sinopec began construction of a slurry bed hydrocracking plant at its 470,000 b/d Maoming refinery in December. Maoming will halt its 42,000 b/d (6,400 t/d) production of petroleum coke when the new hydrocracker comes on line in September 2019, and increase production of diesel by 9,000 b/d.
