Turkey imported more US petroleum coke in November than it had in 17 months and knocked India from its position as the top destination for US green coke exports for the third time in 2017. The 465,100t of coke that the US exported to Turkey in November was the highest since June 2016, when exports totalled 480,400t. The increase may have been a result of traders replenishing stockpiles at their terminal businesses in Turkey and looking to close out 2017 term contracts. Spot demand for midsulphur coke has been fairly flat, with traders having difficulty covering high index pricing on term contracts. This may have led them to push more term tonnage later in the year and ship it to Turkey, where there are large stockpile operations, rather than sell it on spot contracts.
