Japan has set aside $2.2bn to help Japanese manufacturers relocate from China as part of its Covid-19 measures, with the US considering a similar move. This could undermine China’s industrial consumption of coal as its manufacturing sector struggles with dwindling orders in the face of a weakening global economy amid the coronavirus pandemic.
