Coke prices steady as market eyes storm efect

The US Gulf petroleum coke market took a break from its recent climbs, with 6.5pc and 4.5pc sulphur fob prices holding steady for the frst time in six weeks. This was even as market participants weigh the potential supply impacts of last week's Hurricane Laura that hit the Louisiana/Texas coast. Some deals were heard done to Latin America netting back to lower levels, even below $50/t, at the end of last week, suggesting that weaker coal prices and higher freight costs in some cases were starting to weigh on fob pricing. But the extreme tight supply, made tighter by the hurricane, as well as strengthening demand from China for high-sulphur with certain specifcations, kept the prices steady on the week.
