The Chinese government has approved a large new coal mining project as part of a push to increase domestic supplies. The national economic planning agency the NDRC approved the 12mn t/yr coal project in the country’s biggest coal-pro- ducing Inner Mongolia region in the north of the country. The project is the biggest single mine in terms of capacity that the Chinese government has approved this year.
