Veterinary care of African pygmy hedgehogs

Background: African pygmy hedgehogs (Atelerix albiventris) belong to the order Insectivora and the Erinaceidae family. In the wild they can be found in the steppes, grasslands and agricultural fields of central Africa. They are becoming more popular as pets and so clinicians need to be familiar with their general care, husbandry and health issues.
