Auto-erythrocyte sensitization syndrome (AESS) or Gardner-Diamond syndrome is an extremely rare syndrome of discoloration of skin noted typically in adult women with psychiatric comorbidity. It is regarded as autoimmune vasculopathy with sensitization to phospha-tidylserine, a component of erythrocyte stroma.1 It manifests as painful inflammatory skin lesions progressing to ecchymosis preceded by psychological stress. It is relatively rare in children and adolescents.
