The role of community institutions on land use utilization in Salu Paku Sub-watershed South Sulawesi Indonesia

The purpose of this study was to formulate a strategy for the role of community institutions in land use that is not appropriate in its utilization. The formulation of the role of community institutions was emphasized on the management and use of landin accordance with conservative rules. This research was descriptive qualitative through surveys, interviews and Focus Group Discussion (FGD). The sample in the study was farmers' communities in the Salu Paku Sub-watershed and government and private institutions. The data were analyzed by SWOT (strength, weakness, opportunities and threat) analyses by identifying several internal and external factors so that it was easier to formulate strategies to improve the role of community institutions. The resultshowed that IF AS values was 2.45 and EFAS values was 3.35. The formulation of the strategy of the role of the community's institutions is emphasized in maximizing the strengths and utilizing the opportunities that exist as weU as designing strategies in anticipating existing weaknesses and threats. Strategies consisted of conduct good use of forest rehabilitation funds so that community land can be managed properly; use of reforestation funds to develop agricultural products with high demand and use the reforestation funds to support government policies related to watershed management.
