The Mikhailovsky GOK operations are located in Zheleznogorsk, within the Kursk region of Russia. It consists of one of the largest iron ore operations in Russia, with mineral resources and ore reserves over 10Bt. The ROM ore is significantly beneficiated to produce a saleable iron ore product, which includes dry and wet magnetic separation. The operation's cash costs have dropped significantly between late 2014 and 2015, due to the rapid depreciation of the Russian rouble and various cost reduction programs implemented by Metalloinvest. The main product is high-grade iron ore concentrate, which enables Metalloinvest to obtain a price premium against other iron ore products. AME believes the operation will continue to produce at the current capacity while Metalloinvest focuses on reducing mining costs through the development of in-pit crushing and conveying systems and replacement of extraction and haulage equipment.
