Experimental and Theoretical Study on Structural Behavior of Fabric Reinforced Concrete Sandwich Panels

Fabric reinforced concrete sandwich panel (FCSP) has been expected to have higher crack resistance and strength compared to the concrete sandwich panel (CSP). Experimental and numerical study of the strength and failure mechanism of these two panel systems is reported. In order to study the failure mode and strength of fabric reinforced concrete sandwich panel (FCSP) and concrete sandwich panel (CSP), the surface loads was increased gradually until the failure of the specimens. The largest cracking width of FCSP is only 5% of that of CSP, furthermore, the cracking width of FCSP does not increase when the maximum surface load remains on the specimens, but CSP do. With ANSYS, the numerical study was also conducted. It is demonstrated that fabric is beneficial in enhancing the strength of panel and controlling the growth of crack without much influence on the cracking loading of bottom concrete wythes.
