This paper describes a method used to model and analyse the echoes from a submarine-like target. The method is based upon the theory of acoustic echo-formation developed by Freedman. Some of the computational difficulties inherent in this method were overcome by employing a theory known as "the quarter wavelength approximation". The target model presented here is part of a simulator developed to investigate a method for associating a sonar target's echoes with an existing track using a genetic algorithm. [References: 8]
