In situ investigation on linkage between particle penetration and air exchange through building envelope

In the paper, study on quantitative analysis between particle penetration and air change was made. In situ experiments in a practical office room were carried out. Through recording concentration of indoor and outdoor CO2 and PM2.5, particle penetration coefficients (F-p) corresponding to different air change rate (ACH) were obtained by fitting method. The uncertainty analysis by Monte-Carlo method showed that measurement error of CO2 has small effect on ACH determination while PM2.5 measurement error may lead to large F(p)uncertainty when PM2.5 instrument is not suitable. The obtained F-p and ACH showed some linkage. With further theoretic analysis, a correlation between penetration coefficient of particles transferring through building envelope cracks and air change rate was found and an acceptable agreement between experimental data and the correlation was demonstrated. In addition, a general dimensionless correlation was derived to instruct how to decrease F-p in principle.
