Politics and palliative care: Cameroon - Dion Smyth's review of palliative nursing on the internet

My first awareness of the West African Republic of Cameroon came during the 1990 FIFA World Cup, when the legend that is Roger Milla became the tournament's oldest ever goal-scorer-a record he broke in the following tournament 4 years later when he was 42. In the first of those competitions, Cameroon became the first African side to reach a World Cup final. This served to represent the promise and potential of a continent which had been more often featured in negative news reports about war and poverty. Cameroon has prospered in its post-colonial period. However, unrest driven by a sense of marginalisation in Anglophone areas of the country by the Francophone-dominated government are gathering pace.
