The Republic of Seychelles now enjoys a secure and established economic prosperity, and the country is almost a by-word for luxurious tourism. A stable government provides healthcare for the population of almost 100 000 citizens, who enjoy an increasing life expectancy. In line with much of the western developed world, non-communicable diseases account for a large proportion of Seychelles' overall mortality. Cardiovascular disease is the most prominent cause of death. Communicable diseases, such as tuberculosis, are declining in incidence overall.
