The experiences of fa mily caregivers at the end of life: suffering, compassion satisfaction and support of health care professionals

Patients and their family carers are central in the delivery of palliative care, and it is essential that they receive effective, person-centred and individualised care at a time of great vulnerability. Within the context of this care delivery, family carers and healthcare professionals often work in close collaboration in the delivery of care to the person approaching the end of their life. But, it is acknowledged that family carers often face a number of challenges including change in roles from family member to carer and coping with the deterioration of their family member who is approaching the end of their life.
