A mathematical model is developed to calculate the streaming potential (SP) induced by pressure gradient in the canaliculi of a loaded osteon. The osteon is modeled as a hollow annulus cylinder with two types of boundary cases. The first set of boundary conditions (Case I) allows free fluid passage from the outer boundary and none across the inner boundary. The second set of boundary conditions (Case II) allows fluid passage from the inner boundary and none across the outer restraint boundary. The canaliculi model is also developed to relate its fluid pressure gradient and SP. The model permits to link the external loads to the canaliculi fluid pressure, velocity and streaming potential, which may have a significant stimulus to mechanotransduction and electromechanotransduction. Our model can also be used for parametric studies on the poroelastic behavior of osteon.
