Approach of Stability of Single-Layer Reticulated Domes with Initial Curvature to Members

Initial curvature to members is a kind of inevitable initial geometrical imperfection for reticulated domes with the thin walled steel tube. Four finite element simulation methods were proposed to model the initial curvature to members in the reticulated domes using ANSYS. First, the random imperfection mode method was established corresponding to the random characteristic of initial curvature to members, and based on this method, the stability analyses for more than 2500 Hexagonal domes and 2800 Kiewitt single-layer reticulated domes were carried out. The law of the influence of random variables of angle of initial curvature and amplitude of initial curvature on the ultimate loads of reticulated domes was mastered. Second, the applicability of the eigenvalue imperfection mode method and the conformable imperfection mode method for analyzing the effect of initial curvature to members on the ultimate loads of reticulated domes were demonstrated. Third, the modified conformable imperfection mode method (MCIM) was proposed, which was valid to obtain the lowest ultimate load of the single-layer reticulated dome with initial curvature to members.
