Software Component Reusability Design for Open Satellite Ground Control System

In an open satellite ground control system (SGCS), the core functions of the SGCS are directly used without modifications and the ground control functions that are needed for newly launching a satellite is only added in existing SGCS. This approach can efficiently implement SGCS with low cost and can quickly satisfy new requirements. The code reuse of SGCS is very important because of the high rate of code reuse. However there is a lack of research on code reusability that considers the characteristics of SGCS. This paper proposes a software reuse method based on software component that considers the characteristics of satellite ground control systems. Components are divided into common parts that are commonly used in all satellites and variable parts that have functions for specific satellites. Software reuse can be feasible when the common parts interact with variable parts of various satellites. Generally, launched satellites belong to a series, for example, the KOMSAT (Korea Multipurpose Satellite) series, and therefore common parts are changing gradually according to the launch of new satellites and the retirement of old satellites. This paper proposes a method for finding reusable parts in previous SGCS by using set theory at new satellite launch times or at old satellite retirement times.
