Reel Alesa’s latest high capacity ship unloader generation

Reel Alesa supplied a 500t/h pneumatic ship unloader to the RioTinto Iceland Smelter (Isal). The newly designed machine sets a benchmark in efficient and low-cost alumina unloading. The unloader combines Alesa’s experience for high capacity alumina and coke ship unloaders with improved efficiency, maintainability and Industry 4.0 capabilities. The goal of the new development was to keep the high reliability and customized features for alumina handling and improve at the same time the weight, constructability and maintainability. Instead of lattice structure for the main body, Alesa uses a hollow body. This allows a much more customized and optimized design, resulting in a much lighter and simpler steel structure. The design allows the aBembly of various fully aBembled modules in the workshop and on ground level. These different modules are then installed on the construction site. This method provides for a faster and safer erection phase.
