Lightweight metal composite technology is set to help aircraft manufacturers achieve a safe ‘step-change’ in weight, emissions and performance. UK firm Alvant in Basingstoke, Hampshire, promoted the advantages of aluminium matrix composites at the Farnborough Air Show in July. Alvant – previously Composite Metal Technology or CMT – is a recently launched British advanced materials technology business, created to respond to the challenges of lower emissions and reduced weight faced by a broad range of sectors, including transport and defence, high-end consumer goods, industrial products and healthcare.
