When Ford switched over its F-150 truck from a steel to an aluminium-alloy body for the first time in the 2015 model year, the automaker implemented an advanced recycling procedure to recover as much valuable process aluminium scrap as possible. And with the USA’s best-selling vehicle in its class, the F-150 – now produced aluminium-intensively – Ford is processing and recycling greatly increased volumes of process scrap. The company addressed this situation and devised a dedicated closed loop recycling system, first implemented at the Dearborn truck plant in Michigan. Since the company has also entered into a new, alloy-bodied era for 2017, the system is being implemented across three different Ford US plants: Dearborn Stamping, Kentucky Truck in Louisville, where the super truck is built, as well as its Buffalo stamping plant in New York, where body panels are made for its trucks.
