Carbonaceous and Siliceous solids were prepared and modified by including oxygenated and amine groups, respectively; the modified solids were obtained on a posterior process and they were used as Co(II) ions adsorbents from an aqueous solution. Adsorption capacity increases strongly with the initial concentration of cobalt and by including superficial groups. Chemical and textural features of the solids were estimated, as well as immersion enthalpies of the solids in benzene, water, ethanol, NaOH and HCl solutions, and Co(II) ions solutions with values between -19.9 and -145 J g(-1). Adsorption Isotherms of Co(II) on the solids were adjusted to the Langmuir, Freundlich and Redlich-Peterson models.
