摘要

The administration of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is eyeing a unilateral rewrite of some of its obligations in the withdrawal bill agreed between the United Kingdom and the European Union earlier this year, an effort likely to jeopardize Democratic congressional support for a U.S.-UK trade deal. U.S. and UK negotiators are meeting for a fourth round of talks this week. The UK on Wednesday unveiled its "Internal Market Bill," which would give the British government the power to "disapply" certain withdrawal-deal provisions of the protocol applying to the Irish border. The move has been decried not only by top European officials - potentially endangering the prospects for a post-Brexit UK-EU deal - but also by some in the U.S.
