摘要

The latest Global Burden of Disease 2010 (GBD) estimates, while highlighting the substantial burden of chronic diseases [1], show that injuries remain a major cause of death and disability [2]. Estimates suggest that injuries account for about 10% of deaths (5.1 million) worldwide and over 278 million disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) in 2010, accounting for 11.2% of total DALYs [1,2]. Over 90% of DALYs occurred in low or middle income countries (LM1C) [3], and as the distribution of the injury burden is inequitable, vulnerable populations within low income countries are at even higher risk of injuries [4]. In many LMIC, there are often poorly developed emergency, trauma care and rehabilitation systems, and little or no social welfare infrastructure, further magnifying the impact of this burden [5].
