It has been quite a year for graphite, one in which security of supply and price swings have pushed the mineral back onto the main commodities stage. Looking back on a year in which there were arguably more changes than in the previous five or six years combined, one thing is glaringly evident: Most market participants active in graphite did not foresee the changes. Major changes in demand patterns and in global supply led some unexpected volatility.
