Weak market conditions continue to pressure calcined alumina

Sluggish fundamentals for refractories continue to put pressure on speciality calcined alumina raw materials, with prices showing further bearish movement. Demand for refractories and their feedstock materials has suffered a tangible slowdown because of sharp falls in steel output and the stalling of the automotive sector while Western markets seek to contain the Covid-19 pandemic. This has affected consumption and trading flows across all alumina-based products, including bauxite, and brown and white fused alumina, while calcined alumina has not been spared.
