FREE TRADE ZONES - J. MATADEE FREE TRADE ZONE, CHENNAI

I recently had the opportunity to visit the first Free Trade and Warehousing Zone (FTWZ) in south India, located at Mannur village near Tandalam, just short of Sriperumpudur on Chennai-Bengaluru National Highway, about 40 km from Chennai. The Free Trade Zone was approved in 2008 and is spread over an area of about 85 hectares. In the first phase of the project, about 30 acres have been developed. The layout of the Zone is impressive, with wide roads quite convenient for plying large container trucks with adequate space for their parking. Presently, eight leading logistic providers have already occupied their premises and commenced business operations. The list of these logistic providers with contact persons may be seen at Table 1.
