Taxonomic note on the little-known plant Capparis acutifolia subsp. sabiifolia (Hook.f. and Thoms.) M. Jacobs (Capparaceae): A new record for West Bengal, India

During February-March 2017, a focused botanical survey was conducted at North Sevoke Medicinal Plant Conservation Area (MPCA), Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary, Darjeeling district, West Bengal State to collect medicinal plants for the repository of FRLH,Bangalore. The botanical survey had resulted in the collection of 151 plant taxa, of which one Capparis L. specimen was identified as Capparis acutifolia subsp. sabiifolia (Hook.f. and Thoms.) M. Jacobs. After through critical study and in consultationof relevant literatures, he identity of species has been confirmed through matching with the type material housed at Kew herbarium (Types, K000247295, K000247296, K000247297, photo!). The voucher specimens are deposited at FRLH National Herbarium, Bangalore. The present gathering of this species from North Sevoke MPCA, Darjeeling district was assigned as a new distributional record to the West Bengal state. Detailed description along with phenology, photographs, updated nomenclature, its distribution and comparative characters was provided for better understanding of the species.
